Scholar/Artist E. Patrick Johnson is challenging how academics typically think of ethnography. Traditionally researcher collect oral histories and interview collaborators and write their findings up in a book published by an academic press.
Johnson is taking a different approach where he is distilling the fieldwork he conducted with Southern gay men into a one man show called, Sweet Tea, aptly named for the Southern beverage and for his book, Sweet Tea: Black Gay Men of the South.
